Tips For Designing Posters

1. Choosing the correct font for your poster is important. Not all fonts work for your poster. The font should be "readable, clean and vivid for clear communication " and it should be stylish but readable. Also it should be creative and experimental when trying to be decorative.

2. Colors should complement eachother. Colors should not intefer with eachother and make the poster look ugly. Colors that work well together make the text and images look better.

3. Use the rght images. Images are good for communicating your message so use the right ones. Depending on whether there is text also makes the image more or less important.

4.  Use white space to avoid clutter. A lot of pictures and words make the poster look congested. To balance out a poster use a fair amount of blank space. White space makes the poster look organized and draws attention to the right details.

I like it because it's cool. Nice colors and the repeating background shape are nice.

PSA Process

For my PSA I used windows movie maker. For most of the slides I used some sort of transistion. If I did not I at least used an effect to make the transition more smooth.  I found my pictures that I used on google images and inserted them. I had trouble with the duration of my slides because I didn't understand how it works and I still dont even though it ended up working by trial and error. I also saved as a project and not a movie at first so I had to fix that to upload it. I got my music from kanwal who found it online and helped add it to my video.

PSA Site

The PSA site was useful because it explained that PSA are pretty simple and how to make the worthwhile. Basically PSAs should be important to the audience, motivate them to take some sort of action, and deliver a, message clearly. Although some of this is straightforward and somewhat common sense, the advice is still a helpful reminder and guideline for how to create a PSA.

PSA

I will use a PSA which uses mainly text to get my point across. I believe using text is a good way to make sure my audience is engaged because they have to focus to know what my video is about. Points I make will be displayed using different screens of text and they will have some sort of interesting transitions to make them even more appealing to watch.

Premiminary identification of the presentation of the capstone project

The only props I would expect to use would be additional sources of information I may display for people to learn and read more about my project. My project will be on a poster and may include a stand to make it easier to display. I do not intend to make any model as I do not see any way to incorporate it into my project or see a way to make one useful. I will dress more formally than typical. Whether or not I personalize my outfit to my project depends on how useful I think it is. I can dress a little more nerdy than average to represent the mathematical aspect of my project and be somewhat humorous.  Or, I'll dress in a typically formal fashion. The important points I will make verbally will be the same ones I present. The points are how the US is lagging behind other countries and what we can do to improve such as ideas from other countries. I may have some sort of informative brochure to give out emphasizing all the important points. I may show a website but do not entend to show my video I can simply put that on the website.

Look and Feel

My presentation will be serious for the most part but will include humor to get people do enjoy the video more and not be bored. I do not expect it to be very colorful but it will have a variety of colors that do not stand out. The presentation will also have graphs, charts, and information which will show the place of the US compared to other nations. My site, video, and presentation will be persuasive because they will use facts about the state of the US including our economic status and statistics about scores, and how it affects our country such as jobs and the future of the US. The best way to make my point understood is to give facts that both inform and entertain in the sense that they are interesting and surprising. My presentation will be factual and serious with a bit of humor. The layout will be professional with some color as to not be too dull.

PSA

What's important to emphasize is how well the US is doing compared to other nations. The US is not up to par with other developed nations even though the US has the power and ability to change their situation. Also, it is important to note what the US may do improve their scores and how they can learn from other countries.
The PSA should take a serious overall tone but may include a bit of humor. I think graphs, statistics, and charts would help draw people in and display useful, accurate information.

1. Math PSA - Fractions
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ralTbIwUAVc
The reason I like this video is because it uses humor in the context of math. The presenter acts serious although he is not really making a point.
2. China Beats U.S. in Reading, Math and Science
http://abcnews.go.com/WNT/video/china-beats-us-reading-math-science-score-education-american-children-12338330
This video is useful because it shows just how the US compares to the rest of the world. The US has fallen far behind even though we have the resources necessary to perform just as well as many other countries.
